Business Development Director, North America

Employer Description

Covesion started trading in 2009 as a spin-out company from the University of Southampton in the UK. We have been trading successfully since this time establishing an international reputation for our products. Our team has many years’ experience in the manufacture of Periodically Poled Lithium Niobate -PPLN frequency conversion products selling into both, R&D, and OEM customers. We have a range of stock crystals & waveguide products and can design custom chips for our demanding customer base. In the last 2 years Covesion has been transformed doubling product revenues and winning over record amounts of UK Innovation grants to further develop our product lines. We believe this is just a beginning and further growth is planned, Because of our success we are setting up a US subsidiary and this role will be its first recruit. We are looking to recruit a Business Development Director based in the US to help us accelerate our growth in North America and to be able to build our company.

Job Description

Main Duties 

The role will be working primarily in a technology rich sales environment.  The role will focus on selling our existing product lines in North America, developing new customers and developing opportunities for incorporation of our products into optical modules for OEM customers. In addition, the role will ensure we receive market intelligence regarding customer demands and our competitive position. 

The role is responsible for all customer facing aspects in North America and will report to the Head of Sales (HoS) who is based in the UK

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the sales function ensuring Covesion achieves business growth targets with respect to North America
  • Support the HoS with campaigns focussed on new customer acquisition
  • Search proactively for new revenue generating opportunities to feed into the Product Development pipeline
  • Develop quotes, proposals and sales contracts consulting with Production in the UK on delivery matters
  • Support the HoS with competitor intelligence and report new developments
  • Attending trade shows or conferences to exhibit products and keep abreast of the latest products and trends.
  • Reporting sales KPI’s to enable accurate revenue forecasting
  • Travel as required to meet with clients (Scientific and OEM) and develop a senior level network
  • Liaise with marketing colleagues on campaigns

Job Requirements

Knowledge, behaviours, skills & experience:

Essential

  • Relevant degree or equivalent knowledge gained through working in a similar industry or environment
  • 2 years experience of photonic device sales e.g. Optics, Lasers, Semi conductor devices
  • Ability to work as an individual reporting to a team based in the UK
  • Ability to develop new long-term relationships with customers
  • Self-starter who is able to solve problems with minimal supervision
  • Computer literate: Excel, Word and other Microsoft packages
  • Clear communication of complex problems to both customers and remote based colleagues
  • Flexible approach to work
  • Reliable and trustworthy
  • Clean driving licence and own transport

Desirable

  • Understanding of Research funding Mechanisms in the US
  • Second language
  • Knowledge of PPLN and its characteristics
  • Exposure to R&D in an optics setting
  • Post graduate qualification
