Job Description

This Manufacturing Test Engineer is responsible for all aspects of product testing to support all products produced at Thorlabs-UFO. Must be familiar with opto-electronic products, fiber optics, optical and electronic test equipment. Will act as critical interface between engineering and production. Must be familiar with designing, developing and implementing accurate testing processes for optics and electronics. Should also be familiar with high-frequency devices, instruments and test techniques from 1 GHz to 100 GHz.

 

Essential Job Functions include the following, but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for all test equipment (acquisition, use and maintenance)
  • Responsible for developing all test process documentation
  • Responsible for product qualification equipment and testing procedures
  • Responsible for developing test automation using LabVIEW, Excel, and other SW
  • Responsible for data analysis and application to process improvement
  • Training of assemblers where required on new processes
  • Responsible for maintaining all production test equipment in calibration
  • Interact with vendors to specify and install new equipment
  • Assist production staff as required from time to time
  • Responsible for product compliance to international standards

Job Requirements

Qualifications

 

Experience:

  • 5 years experience (min) in similar opto-electronics test engineering role working with all types of test equipment and data acquisition

 

Education:

  • AS or BS in engineering or equivalent

 

Desired Skills:

  • Expertise with optical and electronic test equipment
  • Expertise with data collection, integration, and analysis
  • Expertise with statistical analysis tools
  • Skilled with LabVIEW tools, Excel
  • Familiar with LEAN production process floor setup and flow
  • Experience with fiber-optics
  • Must understand how high-speed opto-electronic components operate
  • Excellent written and oral communication
  • Must enjoy interacting with all members of staff
  • Must be a 'hands-on', 'get-it-done' personality
