The Instruments Business Unit has an excellent opportunity for someone like you to join its innovative product development engineering team as Engineering Manager.  This role will require knowledge of the practical applications of engineering science and technology – including applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various instrumentation goods. We will also look to you to be a team leader with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, who can work effectively with cross functional teams.  If you are organized and detail oriented but also able to understand the big-picture view and can contribute or facilitate creative solutions with a passion for developing and sustaining a broad set of products, this is the role for you.  What you will do is:

  • Collaborate with management, production, and marketing staff to discuss project specifications and procedures
  • Manage and coordinate projects, making detailed plans to accomplish goals and direct the integration of technical activities (some of which might be for remote sites)
  • Analyze technology and resource needs to plan and assess the feasibility of projects
  • Direct, review, and approve product designs and changes
  • Recruit and retain talent; assign, direct, and evaluate their work; provide coaching, support development and continuous improvement at a team and individual level
  • Monitor/Assess performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations to make improvement or take corrective action
  • Support members of a design team to work together to accomplish tasks
  • Identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions
  • Make intelligent decisions when faced with ambiguity, incomplete and sometimes conflicting information with a strong bias towards maintaining project schedule as well as product performance and cost targets
  • Conduct tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality of performance
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of processes and metrics to support achievement of department and company goals
Job Requirements

What you will bring to the role and to our team are the following qualifications and engineering management skills:

  • B.S. degree in science or engineering field
  • 5 years of people or project management experience in a product development/commercialization environment
  • Able and proactive to rapidly learn, understand and evaluate technical concepts at a level sufficient to make sound informed decisions driving project direction and completion
  • Demonstrated ability to guide multidisciplinary groups to develop innovative and optimized technical solutions to complex problems
  • Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming is an advantage
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Advanced ability working with MS Word, Excel, Power Point and other MS Office programs
