Job Description

This is a hands-on position requiring a strong technical background working in a small and growing optics manufacturing company. To ensure the IO department meets the needs of the customer and OPCO Laboratory; communication, interpersonal skills and organizational abilities are essential. A team player with a positive attitude, great work ethic, and excellent attendance is required.

  • Reports to the Integrated Optics department supervisor
  • Ensures work product quality meets or exceeds the customer’s specifications before the part or assembly passes to another department or is shipped to the customer
  • Assist department supervisor to manage resources to ensure customers’ delivery schedules are met
  • Develop one’s personal skill set by learning all IO operations so the company’s growth is sustained and the department is flexible in cross training
  • Support the quality management system with necessary documents and training
  • Work with other department personnel to coordinate efficient product flow through the entire process
  • Adapt to accommodate customer requirements
  • Manage department raw material and supplies inventory
  • Follow preventative maintenance schedules on all equipment. If not adequate, make suggestions to improve
  • Follow company policies and advocate for the company’s position
  • Provide company wide support as needed, do what it takes to get the job done while meeting customer quality and schedule requirements.
  • Perform other tasks and duties as required by one’s supervisor and OPCO Laboratory management



Job Requirements
  • Technical/engineering degree preferred
  • 5 years’ minimum experience in an optical manufacturing environment
  • Coating experience a plus
  • Hands on optical component experience is necessary with attention to detail
  • Knowledge in replication and ruling engine operation is a plus
  • Must be a self-starter, problem solver and self-motivated
  • Ability to think innovatively in order to improve the IO departments operation and quality
  • Ability to evaluate and develop new technical processes
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings and specifications
  • Ability to create mechanical drawings using software such as Solid Works and AutoCAD or equivalent system
  • Advanced use of technical computer application programs is a plus
  • Ability to understand and use metrology equipment such as Vernier’s, micrometers, interferometer, microscopes and other optical measuring equipment
  • Ability to develop and maintain written logs and company databases
  • Ability and desire to grow into the department supervisor
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds and ambulate stairs
