The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering has 26 faculty members, 440 undergraduates, and 190 graduate students. It has cross-cutting research programs in biomedical engineering; communications and signal processing; computer engineering; controls and robotics; electric power and energy systems; electromagnetics and remote sensing; lasers and photonics and their applications. In 2015, the National Science Foundation selected the ECE department to lead the nation to scalable and sustainable change in engineering education through its Revolutionizing Engineering Departments (RED) program. Impressively, CSU was the first ECE department chosen by the NSF for this highly competitive initiative of national importance. The department participates in the CSU Information Science and Technology Center (ISTeC), the CSU-CHILL National Radar Facility, and the graduated NSF Engineering Research Center for Collaborative Adaptive Sensing of the Atmosphere. It is home to the headquarters of the graduated NSF Engineering Research Center for Extreme Ultraviolet Science and Technology. The Department is also part of national and international collaborations through LaserNet US, a Department of Energy Consortium of ultra-high-power lasers, LIGO (Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Detector) Scientific Collaboration and the NSF/Moore Foundation Center for Coatings Research.  ECE boasts three Colorado State University Distinguished Professors and one University Distinguished Teaching Scholar, the highest recognition available for CSU faculty. More than 40% of ECE faculty hold IEEE Fellow distinction, and many faculty have courtesy appointments in the departments of Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Statistics, and Systems Engineering and collaborate with faculty in these and other departments across CSU. The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering collaborates with the School of Advanced Materials Discovery (SAMD) at CSU (https://www.research.colostate.edu/samd/), which grants graduate degrees (ME, MS and PhD) in materials science and engineering (MSE). SAMD is an interdisciplinary organization spanning multiple departments and colleges that serves as a nexus for materials science and engineering research and education at CSU. All SAMD faculty have their primary faculty appointment and tenure in a home department (e.g., electrical and computer engineering) and contribute to SAMD by teaching SAMD courses, advising SAMD graduate students, and sitting on SAMD committees. It is anticipated that the successful candidate who does research at the nexus of ECE and MSE would become a SAMD permanent faculty member.

Job Description

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Colorado State University, Fort Collins, invites applications and nominations for a tenure track faculty position at the assistant or associate level to start in Fall 2020. Candidates are sought with interests that complement and expand upon current research and teaching activities int he Department. Applicants in all areas will be considered. Research areas of particular interest include computer engineering, data sciences, photonics and quantum materials and devices, high intensity lasers and applications, and radars. This nine-month, full-time position will carry a salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

New faculty members will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in electrical and/or computer engineering; advise graduate and undergraduate students; conduct innovative research; and provide service to the department, the university, and the professional community.

A successful candidate will have a doctorate in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or related discipline, by the start date of the position; the potential to develop a vibrant sponsored research program; the ability to effectively teach at the graduate and undergraduate levels; and the interest to serve the department, university, and professional community.
