Applied Technology Associates (ATA) is seeking an Information Technology (IT) Intern in support to the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Space Vehicles Advanced Technology (SVAT) contract. ATA is supporting AFRL in a variety of areas related to the design and flight of space vehicles. One of those areas is in the application and implementation of algorithms for autonomous and robotic spacecraft functions. ATA is looking for qualified candidates who are interested in working within a small, agile, innovative team supporting Air Force projects and who share a strong desire to create a work environment that is highly collaborative, rewarding, and fun. The successful candidate will serve as an IT intern within AFRL/ATA’s Resilient Autonomous Navigation Guidance and Robotic Systems (RANGRS) team and contribute to a collection of projects to help with the maintenance and expansion of the Group’s networked computing systems. Current projects include hardware upgrades to the existing systems including the addition of new switches, servers, and workstations. Future projects include migrating from a Windows environment to Linux for all servers and most workstations. The Group operates four difference laboratories, which have recently been networked together. The laboratories simulate and emulate many aspects of spacecraft flight providing simulated and real-time testbeds and verification and validation platforms for on-orbit spacecraft algorithms and software. We work in a hardware environment dominated by Dell products.
The Intern’s duties will include:
- Establishing, configuring, and documenting hardware and BIOS settings and configurations
- Establishing and documenting standard software installation and configuration processes
- Identify helpful or needed hardware and software
- Develop and implement scripts for IT management functions

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a part-time position. Days and hours (8-20 per week) are nominally within a Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. workday.
Travel is primarily local during the business day.
Required Education and Experience
- Attending an accredited IT, Engineering, or Computer Science program at the Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. level
- S. citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
- Background or course work in IT and/ or management information systems
Preferred Education and Experience
- Active security clearance
- Experience with Windows Servers and workstations
- Experience with Linux Servers and workstations
- Experience with Dell Servers and workstations
- Experience with PowerShell and/or Bash scripting
- Experience with revision control systems such as Git, Mercurial, or Subversion
- Experience programming in C/C++
