ATA develops embedded processing systems for commercial and DoD applications. Our primary focus involves the application of state-of-the art, FPGA and System-On-Chip (SOC) devices to high performance video processing, adaptive optics, laser communications, imaging sensors, and a wide range of real-time control systems for inertial measurement units, fast steering mirrors, and stabilized telescopes. ATA is seeking an experienced test engineer to lead the test planning and execution of laser communications and high energy laser beam control hardware. Projects would vary from technology development programs to integration and test of space flight hardware, and may include full optical systems or components (gimbals, fast steering mirrors, etc.). The candidate would be expected to work with a multi-disciplinary engineering team to understand both the environmental testing requirements as well as operational performance testing requirements. Examples of some equipment that the candidate would need to be familiar with include thermal and T-Vac chambers, vibration tables, various data acquisition systems, optical equipment, such as an interferometer, etc. The candidate will be expected to be involved with understanding system requirements, up-front test planning, developing test procedures, hands-on test execution (working with project engineering leads and ATA’s technicians), and ensuring full test reports are written.
We are seeking a highly motivated individual with strong critical thinking skills, strong writing capability, demonstrated self-starter characteristics, and someone who is capable of working both individually and as part of a small team. The candidate must be able to adapt between technology development projects and the formalisms (processes & procedures) associated with building space-qualified or production hardware.
- Bachelor of Engineering in any of the following concentrations: Aerospace, Electrical, Computer Engineering, Mechanical, or Optical (or comparable), and 3-5 years working experience.
- Understanding of systems engineering and related practices with emphasis on opto-mechanical systems
- Proficiency with various test equipment (Note that some learning of ATA’s particular test equipment is expected)
- Experience with data acquisition software (e.g. LabVIEW), analysis software (e.g. MATLAB), and similar related tools
- Experience writing test procedures
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense Secret Security Clearance (Note a clearance will not be required initially).
- Experience with laser safety
- Experience with space flight hardware
- Current US DoD Clearance
