Job Description

Principal Opto-Electronic Test Development Lead Engineer

Allentown, PA, United States

 

Responsibilities

  • Looking for an Experienced Photonic Engineer who also likes to write software
  • Key participant in the Software and Hardware development of equipment used to test opto-electronic devices running at 600 Gb / wave
  • Partner with engineering staff to define and implement detailed testability requirements
  • Develop Test Stations that will eventually be transferred to Production

Ideal Candidate Requirements

Prior Test Engineer Experience

  • Experience testing 16QAM or higher (32QAM, 64QAM) optical modules
  • Experience testing Tunable Lasers
  • Experience testing Coherent Receivers with Local Oscillator (LO)
  • Hands-on experience with optical communication system product development such as coherent optics transceivers & DSP (digital signal processors)
  • Experience in developing test and measurement solutions for electrical and optical components and subsystems
  • Experience with digital and mixed signal IC testing is a plus

Hardware

  • Hands on experience with optical and electrical test and measurement equipment including programmable optical power meters, attenuators, and switches, optical spectrum analyzers, digital multi-meters and oscilloscopes
  • Understanding EDFA specifications used to generate OSNR loading
  • Candidate should have a good understanding of electronics, be able to read electrical schematics and comprehend technical documents.

Software

  • Programming experience in OO languages is required.  Infinera is using VB.NET software to control custom and commercial test and measurement equipment using USB, GPIB, TCP/IP, and SPI interfaces.  Infinera’s hardware communicates using COM and TCP/IP with embedded software / firmware.
  • Candidate does not need to be a Software Architect but an engineer that can author custom algorithms / sequences by building on the existing infrastructure / hardware
  • Provide software debug information for skilled technicians for fault isolation of complex optical, electrical, and communication problems
  • Participate in improving our shared code repository
  • Proficient in Microsoft Products (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Understand basic Statistics.  Experienced with or can learn Gauge R&R and SPC (Statistical Process Control) is a plus, not necessary

  • Formal or Informal leadership skills:  Ability to mentor & guide
  • Communication – Need to be able to interface with all levels of people from technicians to Vice Presidents in a professional manner
  • Need to be proactive and self-motivating.  Balancing production needs with continuous improvement and development initiatives
  • Be able to work in a collaborative, team environment

Education / Experience

 

  • BS in science or engineering with 10+ years’ experience required
  • MS/PhD with 5+ years’ experience
  • This position is not for new grads
